TV ads show men with balding spots being tried on with miracle products. And then voila! The hair became thicker and longer in a wink of an eye. Basically most hair loss issues are geared towards men. And it's not just because skin head is an "in" thing, or because Billy Zane seems to sport the look. Men simply have the tendency to go completely bald. However, women are not spared from hair loss issues. It is a fact that about two thirds of women actually go through hair loss due to menopause.

(Commercial break - We review air compressors such as the Makita MAC700 on our blog)

Hair loss in women happens more often than is actually perceived. However the extent of hair loss in women is not as pronounced as those in men. Balding spots are not seen in women as they are in men, because their hair loss has mostly a thinning effect. Women's hair loss due to menopause is not even made clear up to now as to its real causes. Even the impact of estrogen in women's hair hasn't been fully understood. However, there are estrogen medications being prescribed by doctors as treatment for hair loss during menopause. There are myths surrounding hair loss due to menopause some of which are as follows:

Myth 1: Hair loss problem is inherited from one's father.
This is partly true. Hair loss like Androgenetic Aplopecia is hereditary-type. However, not just the father is responsible for your inheritance. The genes of both parents are a factor.

Myth 2: Women's hair loss due to menopause results in abnormal bleeding.
Not true. Hair loss does not in any way affect menstruation.

Myth 3: Washing hair too often can cause hair loss.
Definitely not. Hair loss is not a result of a normal hair care practice.

Myth 4: Poor scalp circulation and blocked hair follicles are causes of hair loss.
People have been pointing fingers on these reasons as the real culprits to hair loss. However, this is no more than a publicity by those selling hair loss remedies.

Pattern hair loss due to menopause happens to a lot of women than others might think. Experts have linked this to the decline of estrogen production in the body. It is also said that estrogen supposedly protects us from the testosterone and a particular enzyme inside our body which are responsible in the pattern baldness in women.

Hair loss due to menopause is another addition to the many changes that a woman has to deal with. However, consulting your doctor about your problems may make you more accepting of menopause and all the challenges it brings.

Women who are going through menopause, the 'change of life', often had no idea how miserable this experience could be, until it was upon them. You may change from a perfectly rational, cheerful and upbeat person into an irrational, anxious, nervous bundle of nerves.

This bad movie may not end here. Along with heart palpitations, serving only to increase your anxiety and nervous condition, irritability and headaches enter the picture. Perhaps the worst of all is the episodes of profuse perspiration associated with the infamous hot flashes.

You may become depressed (ya think?).

Although not every woman experiences all of these menopausal symptoms, just a few are enough to drive you crazy. Now that we know that hormone replacement therapy is not a good idea, what do you do?

Fortunately, there are a number of herbal supplements for menopause, which provide safe and effective relief from these less than enchanting symptoms. Many of these herbs have been used for centuries, as a specific for menopause symptom relief, in a variety of cultures around the world. Here are some of the best.

Black Cohosh is one of the best single herbs for symptoms. Native Americans used this plant extensively for many female complaints and specifically for symptoms of menopause. This plant has a component which is a precursor for estrogen – your body uses this estrogen precursor to produce just the amounts of estrogen your body needs.

Black Cohosh is also an excellent remedy for hot flashes, anxiety and depression. In addition to combating rheumatic conditions, it relieves muscle cramps and attendant pain. Some studies suggest it may also help manage blood pressure and reduce cholesterol.

If hot flashes are a problem, you'll want some Red Clover flowers in your cupboard. Brew a cup of red clover tea and drink 3 or 4 cups each day. Incidentally, red clover is also a treatment for ovarian cysts.

The dried fruits of the Agnus Castus tree is another one of the best herbs for menopause. Its main virtue lies in its hormone balancing qualities, which helps relieve depressive conditions, especially in menopause.

Angelica, also known in Traditional Chinese medicine as Dong Quai, is another of the hormone balancing herbs for menopause. Angelica contains goodly quantities of natural plant estrogens, treating symptoms of reduced levels of estrogen.

Sage, the common culinary herb, may be drunk as a tea to reduce sweating and hot flashes. Drink 3 or 4 cups daily. Use this herb liberally in your foods as well. If you're bothered by the dreaded night sweats, sage is especially helpful in bringing you relief.

St. John's Wort, or Hypericum has a mild sedative effect which proves useful if you're feeling anxious and may also help with depression.

This list of herbs for menopause symptom relief is not exhaustive. Consult a qualified herbalist or naturopathic doctor for specific doses and choices that are right for you.
